KHUJAND, August 31, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Tajik border guard has wounded Istaravshan resident, mistaking him for border violator.

According to the Sughd police directorate, the incident took place in the area not far from the border village of Kommunizm in Istaravshan district, Sughd province at the Tajik-Uzbek border Monday (August 30) noon.

“Private soldier of border unit 2827 deployed in Istaravshan district, Komron Mirzoyev, fired at local resident Erkin Qobilov, mistaking him for border violator,” said the source, “Qobilov, who was wounded in the leg, was taken to the central district hospital in Istaravshan.”

The Sughd military prosecutor’s office has instituted proceedings to probe into the incident and an investigation is under way, the source added.
