KHUJAND, September 3, 2010, Asia-Plus  — A powerful blast rocked Khujand, the capital of Sughd province today morning.

The explosion occurred within the compound of the Sughd regional body to combat organized crime at around 8:00 am.  The body’s building caught fire and four firefighting crews are extinguishing the fire and several ambulances are taking wounded people away from the explosion site.  According to some source, more than 20 people were wounded; many of them are in serious health condition.

According to unspecified data, the blast has caused casualties.  The blast was sufficiently powerful that it blew out the windows of nearby buildings.
