DUSHANBE, February 3, 2011, Asia-Plus  — Two separate operations by police officers have led to the seizure of 59 kilograms of narcotics in southern Khatlon province.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the 40-year-old of Afghan Kunduz province, Bismillo waladi Tokhtar, was detained in Shouroobod district on February 2.  A sack containing 26 kilograms of cannabis was confiscated from him.

On the same day, another resident of Afghan Kunduz province, Akhtarmahmad waladi Habibullo, 18, was detained in Panj district.  33 kilograms of hemp were confiscated from him, the source at a MoI said.

Residents of Afghan Kunduz province bordering on Tajikistan are frequently detained in Tajikistan for drug smuggling.  Several days earlier, the 21-year-old Fozilkhon waladi Ahmadgul from Kunduz province was detained with 57 kilograms of narcotics in Khatlon province.

We will recall that Tajik law enforcement authorities seized nearly 4,000 kilograms of narcotics in 2010.
