QURGHON TEPPA, May 25, 2011, Asia-Plus  — The chief sanitary inspector of the city of Sarband in Khatlon province, Kenja Urozov, has been arrested for assaulting traffic police officers.

According to the Khatlon prosecutor’s office, Urozov was detained on the highway from Qurghon Teppa to Danghara on May 24 for drunken driving.

“Traffic police officers Artur Nazarov and Avaz Iborhimov drew up a report and were going to carry him to hospital for medical examination,” said the source, “On the way to hospital, Urozov asked them to stop the car.  When the car stopped, he suddenly assaulted the traffic police officers and punched them several times.”

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Kenja Urozov under the provisions of Article 328 (1) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – use of violence against a public agent; an investigation is under way.
