DUSHANBE, June 25, Asia-Plus — An agreement on cooperation between the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of Tajikistan and Afghanistan was signed in Dushanbe on June 24.
The document was inked by Maliksho Nematov, Chairman of the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs as well as Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan, and Mohammad Zahir Aghbar, President of Afghanistan’s national Olympic Committee.
Under this agreement, Tajik and Afghan athletes may be jointly trained for various international competitions. The document also provides for organization of joint sports events.
The main objective of the agreement is in promoting expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the filed of sports and development of various Olympic types of sports in Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
Mr. Mohammad Zahir Aghbar arrived in Dushanbe Friday morning for a five-day visit. During his stay in Tajikistan, Mohammad Zahir Aghbar will hold talks with senior representatives of Tajikistan’s NOC and Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs to discuss bilateral cooperation issues. The Afghan NOC head will also visit a number of sports complexes in Tajikistan.
