DUSHANBE, November 10, 2011, Asia-Plus  — On Wednesday November 9, Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper house of parliament), Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, met in St. Petersburg with his counterparts from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Russia.

Ubaidulloyev’s discussions with Kayrat Mami, Chairman of Kazakhstan’s Senate, focused on issues related to parliamentary cooperation between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.  Ubaidulloyev invited Mami to visit Tajikistan at any convenient time, Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, said.

Solution of problems existing on Tajikistan’s common border with Kyrgyzstan was among major topics of the meeting of Ubaidulloyev with Akhmatbek Keldybekov, Chairman of Zhokorgu Kenesh (unicameral Parliament of Kyrgyzstan).  Keldybekov invited Ubaidulloyev to pay visit to Bishkek.

On Wednesday, Tajik parliament speaker also met with Ms. Valentina Matviyenko, Chairperson of the Federation Council (Russian parliament’s upper house), at her request.   State and prospects of further expansion of parliamentary relations between Tajikistan and Russia as well as sentencing of Russian pilot in Tajikistan were the focus of the meeting, Saidov said.
