DUSHANBE, March 20, 2012, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday March 20, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, and Mr. Kholmahmad Rahimov, Director of the Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery of Tajikistan, signed a grant contract for “The Project for the Improvement of Microsurgical Department of the Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery of Tajikistan.”

According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) allocates the total amount of US$111,714.

Microsurgical department of the Republican Scientific Center for Cardiovascular Surgery is the only one institute in Tajikistan that can perform delicate surgery in relation to reattachment, plastic and rhino plastic operations for emergency cases.  The acute shortage of modern medical equipment for microsurgery makes it difficult for the center to provide proper microsurgery services to patients.

The government of Japan will supply eleven medical devices such as several set of surgical instruments of rhino plastic and plastic operation, an operation lamp, an electrical scalpel and a boring machine for surgery to the center.  As a result of the project, the center will be able to offer quality medical care on microsurgery to the patients, ensuring people’s living standards as well as basic human rights for health.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 21.1 million for 282 projects in Tajikistan.
