“The Project for Rehabilitation of Maternity Department of Central Hospital in Panjakent City” with the total amount of 106,314USD funded by the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully completed.

On May 23rd  2012, Mr. Hiroyuki IMAHASHI, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Tajikistan and Mr. Bobojon DOMULLOEV, First Deputy Chairman of Panjakent city attended a handover ceremony at the maternity department of central hospital in Panjakent city.

Since construction of the building of the maternity department in 1973, the hospital has never been rehabilitated fully. The building was not appropriate to use and electrical lines and water supply lines didn’t meet the requirement of safety regulations. The condition of medical facility affected even to medical equipment badly and it was difficult to provide appropriate medical treatment in the hospital.

Two blocks of 1,876 m² of maternity department have been renovated and plastic windows, internal water and electrical lines have been replaced through the project. 4,600 mothers and their new born babies are now able to get access to hygienic environment. It is expected that the project will decrease maternal mortality rate in Panjakent city and Kuhistoni Mastchoh district of Sughd region.
