DUSHANBE, June 21, Asia-Plus  — Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, who is currently in Brazil to attend the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, yesterday met in Rio de Janeiro with the United National Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

According to the president’s official website, the sides discussed cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations in different fields.

Tajik leader reportedly expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation with the UN agencies active in Tajikistan and highly appraised the United Nations role in tackling socioeconomic and security problems in Tajikistan.

Rahmon also expressed hope that the United Nations would help Tajikistan tackle problems connected with climate changes, ecology and anthropogenic disasters.

The sides also discussed issues related to efficient use of Tajikistan’s hydropower potential, enhancement of transportation and communications sectors in Tajikistan and establishment of peace and accord in Afghanistan, the president’s official website said.
