DUSHANBE, June 22, 2012, Asia-Plus – The law enforcement authorities say police will carry out passport checks in the Tajik capital on the threshold of the National Unity Day, which is marked on June 27.

An official website of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) reports police will begin carrying out passport checks ahead of the National Unity Day.

Lieutenant-Colonel Jaloliddin Sadriddinov, a spokesman for a MoI, says chief of the Interior Ministry department for public order Barot Homidov has ordered officers from the Dushanbe police directorate to abide by the law while executing their duties.  The MoI also asks the population to understand the measure.

“This measure does not mean that any citizen will be subject to passport checks on the streets of the city,” Sadriddinov noted.

According to him, police officers will visit residential buildings to reveal persons without residence permit.  “This is the main goal of introduction of the passport regime,” Homidov added.
