DUSHANBE, August 29, 2012, Asia-Plus /Avaz Yuldoshev/ — A meeting of the Government, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, took place on August 28.

The president’s official website says Minister of Land Reclamation and Water Resources Rahmat Bobokalonov reported on the progress of implementation of government’s decree on measures to improve irrigation of lands for 2010-2014.

The minister in particular, noted that 34.3 million somoni were earmarked for improvement of reclamation state of irrigated lands over the report period.

The meeting also heard report by chairperson of GBAO’s Shugnan district on implementation of requirements of the country’s law on local authorities.

Republican subventions reportedly cover some 85 percent of Shugnan’s budget estimated at 13.5 million somoni.

This year, the budget has allocated 20 million somoni for construction of new facilities in the Shugnan district.

The administrative center of the Shugnan district is moving from the city of Khorog, the capital of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous to the Vahdat Township in the Porshnev Jamoat of the Shugnan district.

Speaking a the meeting, President Rahmon ordered all ministries and agencies to move their local offices from Khorog to the Vahdat Township as soon as possible and make their contribution to improvement of the new administrative center of the Shugnan district.

The president also gave specific orders regarding construction and renovation of local motor roads, educational, medical, cultural, and sports facilities in the Shugnan administrative center, the source said.

The meeting also considered issues related to improvement of the city of Khorog.

The government considered and endorsed draft laws requiring amendments to a number of the current laws.

The meeting also endorsed the national new irrigated land development program designed for 2012-2020.

The Khorog-based Institute for the humanities of the Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan was named after Academician Bahodur Iskandarov.
