DUSHANBE, September 14, 2012, Asia-Plus — Twenty-four middle-level officers from Tajikistan Ministry of Interior, Migration Service under the Government of Tajikistan and Main Department of Border Guards under the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan have participated in the “Illegal migration and trafficking in human beings” training organized by the EU-UNDP Border Management Program in Central Asia (BOMCA) jointly with the International Center for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), press release issued by the Delegation of the European Union Delegation to Tajikistan on September 14 said.

Two trainers from the European Union presented such topics as illegal migration as a type of cross-border crimes, trafficking in human beings as a crime, its influence on the national security of the state, as well as definitions and classifications of such terms as “human trafficking,” “involvement into prostitution,” “illegal labor/exploitation,” and “human smuggling.”

Trainers provided overview of the international standards and national legislation in the sphere of human trafficking, as well as cooperation and information-gathering in the area of human trafficking.  Participants of the training were familiarized with ways, tools and systems for information gathering, such as databases, and intelligence activities in the area of illegal migration and human trafficking.

Specialists from the UN Refugee Agency made a presentation on human trafficking and rights of refugees for the training participants.

The overall objectives of BOMCA are to help increase security in the Central Asian region, to contribute toward the facilitation of legitimate trade and transit, and to reduce the illicit movement of goods and people.

The BOMCA Program is funded by the European Union and implemented by UNDP with ICMPD as an implementing partner.
