Some 15 kilos of contraband jewelry confiscated at the Dushanbe airport

DUSHANBE, December 11, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Officers from the Dushanbe police directorate have seized a large amount of contraband jewelry.

According to the Interior Ministry’s website, Ms. Muqaddas Azimova, 43, from Dushanbe was arrested at the Dushanbe airport on suspicion of having been involved in jewelry smuggling on December 10.

Some 3 kilograms of gold jewelries and 12 kilograms of silver jewelries were reportedly found in her BMW X6.  “The confiscated jewelries were illegally delivered to Dushanbe from Istanbul by plane,” the source said.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted and an investigation is under way.
