DUSHANBE, February 28, 2013, Asia-Plus – Abdurahim Umarov, a spokesman for the Customs Service under the Government of Tajikistan, has been beaten up by unknown assailants in Dushanbe’s neighborhood # 103.

Nourullo Sharipov, an official with the Customs Service, says the incident took place in the evening of February 27 when Abdurahim Umarov was returning home from work.  The cause of beating up is still unknown.

“Abdurahim Sharipov is currently at the Interior Ministry hospital and he is now in good condition.  Physicians say he will be discharged form the hospital the following Saturday” said Sharipov.  “Umarov says he has no idea who and what for beat him.”

The Interior Ministry has instituted criminal proceedings and an investigation is under way.
