DUSHANBE, April 8, 2013, Asia-Plus — The board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) considered the Tajikistan-Afghanistan-China agreement on definition of the tri-junction point for national boundaries at an April 8 meeting, presided over by the Majlisi Namoyandagon speaker, Shukurjon Zuhurov.
Speaking a the meeting, Amirqul Azimov, head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Law and Order, Defense and Security, noted that the agreement is based on relevant border pacts with Afghanistan and China, and it was reached through negotiations among the three nations, the Majlisi Namoyandagon press center noted.
In 2010, Tajikistan held border negotiations and signed a draft agreement with China and Afghanistan. The foreign ministers from the three nations singed the agreement in Beijing, China in June 2012.
The agreement has been tabled to the next sitting of the fourth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation.
The ratification of the agreement is reportedly of great significance to maintain peace along the border areas, and it will further promote friendship among the three countries.
Meanwhile, China ratified the agreement in October 2012.
The Majlisi Namoyandagon board also considered an agreement between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan on allocation of land plots for construction of the diplomatic mission Tajikistan in Ashgabat and the diplomatic mission of Turkmenistan in Dushanbe.
The board members also considered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the governments of Tajikistan and Iran on reconstruction of the Istqilol Tunnel in Tajikistan.
The board also discussed the draft law on radioactive waste management as well as bills requiring amendments to the country’s laws “On TV and Radio-broadcasting” and “On Narcotics, Psychotropic Substances and Precursors.”
Some of these issues will be considered at a regular sitting of the fourth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation that will take place on April 10.
