DUSHANBE, October 8, 2013, Asia-Plus — Committees and commissions of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have begun to study the draft law on the national budget for 2014.

The Majlisi Namoyandagon committees and commissions are to study the 2014 budget’s parameters offered by the government within three weeks.

A decision on this subject was made at a meeting of the board (Shuro) of the Majlisi Namoyandagon that was held today.

We will recall that a September 30 meeting of the government considered and endorsed a draft law on the national budget for 2014 and highlights of the national budgets for 2015 and 2016.

Under the draft law on the national budget for 2014, the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) will stand at 48.5 billion somoni next year, inflation in 2014 will stand at 7.5 percent and deflation index will stand at 5.9 percent.

A total volume of the national budget for 2014 is expected to stand at 13.901 billion somoni (28.7 percent of GDP), which is 1.8 billion somoni, or 15.3 percent, more compared to this year’s budget.

“The board has set up the working group for drafting the law on agricultural risks insurance,” Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Said Yoqubzod, the head of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Committee on Agricultural Problems, Water and Land Resources, will head the group.

The board also discussed amendments offered to the country’s law on militisiya (police), roads and road maintenance, legal status of a deputy of the Local Councils of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region, provinces, Dushanbe city, cities and districts, and public health.

The board also discussed issues related to ratification of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Tripartite Consultation (International Labor Standards) Convention, an agreement between Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) regarding the Khujand International Airport Emergency Loan Project, and a loan agreement between Tajikistan and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) regarding the Danghara Valley Irrigation Project.

All these issues have been tabled to the agenda of the next sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation that will be held on October 10, Sultonov said.
