DUSHANBE, April 16, 2014, Asia-Plus – Compared to January, Tajikistan’s real wage rate in February declined 0.2 percent, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

Meanwhile, the real wage reportedly rose 15.8 percent in a year to February 28, 2014.

The term ‘real wages’ refers to wages that have been adjusted for inflation, or, equivalently, wages in terms of the amount of goods and services that can be bought.  This term is used in contrast to nominal wages or unadjusted wages.

In February, an average monthly nominal wage in Tajikistan reportedly stood at 820.00 somoni (equivalent to 170.00 USD) and current minimum monthly wage in the country stands at 250.00 somoni (equivalent to 52.00 USD).

In the real sector of economy, the lowest average wage was reported in the agrarian sector and forestry – 288.00 somoni (60.00 USD), and the highest average wage was reported in the mining sector – 1,645.00 somoni (342 USD).

In February 2014, an average monthly wage in the real sector of the economy stood at 783.00 somoni (163 USD), which was 25 percent more than in February 2013.

In the service sector, employees of financial intermediation institutions had the highest average wage in February – 1,845.00 somoni (384 USD).

In February this year, an average monthly wage in the service sector stood at 832.00 somoni (173 USD), which was 18 percent more than in February 2013.

Tajikistan reportedly has the lowest average wage among the CIS nations.

Vedomosti’s information department notes that in the first half-year of 2013 the lowest average wage in the CIS area was registered in Tajikistan – 4,864.73 Russian rubles (RR), which was more than six times lower than in the Russian Federation.
