DUSHANBE, May 13, 2014, Asia-Plus — The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRP) has opened the Department of Science and Work with Ulama (Muslim religious scholars).

The Department head Zubaydullo Roziq says the main objective of the department is in working with the country’s ulama.

We will recall that the Academy that was established by the IRP in 2011 was shut down in September last year following a written warning from the Ministry of Justice.

The Ministry of Justice noted that under its charter the party did not have the right to establish educational institutions such an academy.

Under its Charter, the IRP has the right to have research center and conduct surveys.

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991.  It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  Its official newspaper is

Najot

(Salvation).  According to some sources, IRP now has more than 40,000 members.  It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections.  The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.  Current chairman of the IRP is Muhiddin Kabiri.
