DUSHANBE, February 24, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik Deputy Foreign Minister, Nizomiddin Zohidi, yesterday met here with Mr. Fyodor Klimchuk, Deputy Head of the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA).

According to the Tajik MFA information department, the two discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the Center.

Klimchuk reportedly briefed Tajik deputy foreign minister on the activity and the upcoming events of the Center.

Zohidi, for his part, noted that Tajikistan supports the Center’s activity on preventing conflicts and addressing trans-boundary challenges and threats, the source said.

The United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia was inaugurated in December 2007 to help the region’s countries respond more proactively to cross-border challenges and threats before they can become costlier and more difficult to control.

The Center is tasked with assisting the governments of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in building capacities to peacefully prevent conflict, in facilitating dialogue, and in catalyzing international support behind projects and initiatives.
