DUSHANBE, July 29, 2015, Asia-Plus — Ex-Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan, Major-General Mamadayoz Navjuvanov, died in Dushanbe yesterday, aged 72 after a long illness.

He will be buried in his native village Manem in the Shugnan district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) today.

Mamadayoz Navjuvanov was Soviet career officer and statesman.

Born in Shugnan district, Gorno Badakhshan on August 3, 1942, Mamadayoz Navjuvanov received his early education at School No 20 in the Shugnan district before graduating in 1966 from Saratov Higher Military School.

In April 1970, his name was added to the Book of Honor of Internal Troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Soviet Union.

In 1975, Navjuvanov graduated by correspondence from the Faculty of Law at Tajik National University.  In 1979, Mamadayoz Navjuvanov graduated from M.V. Frunze Military Academy.

In 1979-1980, Mamadayoz Navjuvanov served in Afghanistan training officers for the Afghan armed forces.

In 1980-1984, he was commander of the 33rd special motorized battalion of the 88th division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Soviet Union.

From 1984 to 1989, Mamadayoz Navjuvanov was commander of the 586th regiment of the 88th division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Soviet Union.

Mamadayoz Navjuvanov was given the military rank of Major-General in 1989.

In 1989-1992, Mamadayoz Navjuvanov was Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan.

Major-General Mamadayoz Navjuvanov was awarded three orders (the Order of the Red Star, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and the 3 rd class Order for Service to the Homeland in the Armed Forces of the USSR) and thirteen medals.
