DUSHANBE, June 1, 2016, Asia-Plus – The Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) today endorsed bill permitting temporary privatization of state-owned infrastructure facilities.
Presenting amendments proposed by the government to the country’s law on privatization of state-owned property, the head of the State Committee on Investment and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest), Qodir Qosim, noted that the bill prvides for temporary privatization of some state-owned infrastructure facilities.
“The list of facilities liable to the temporary privatization and conditions of the temporary privatization will be determined by the government,” Qosim said.
We will recall that the amendments to the country’s law on privatization of state-owned property endorsed by the Majlisi Namoyandagon on February 25, 2009 prohibit privatization of the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Tajik Aluminum Company (Talco) and the Norak and Roghun hydroelectric power plants (HPPs). Talco as well as Norak and Roghun HPPs were recognized as facilities of nationwide and strategic significance that are not liable to privatization.
The list of facilities that are not liable to privatization also includes defense facilities and water resources.
GosKomInvest noted that time that the remaining industrial enterprises, including large monopolist companies, would be restructured.
