DUSHANBE, June 28, 2016, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmon was on a working visit to the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) from June 25 to June 28.
During the visit to Gorno Badakhshan, Rahmon visited Vanj, Rushan, Shugan and Ishkashim districts as well as the city of Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
While in the Vanj district, the president reportedly expressed concern about involvement of local youth in terrorist groups and demanded that local authorities and parents return “their children from wrong way.”
“According to the information we have, dozens of residents of the district are fighting alongside terrorist organizations in Syria and Iraq,” Rahmon said during a meeting with administrators and residents of the Vanj district.
The president also touched upon this problem during a visit to the Yazgulem jamoat of the Vanj district.
On the same day, Emomali Rahmon visited the Rushan district and on June 26 and 27, he visited Shugnan and Ishkashim districts.
During his visits to Rushan, Shugnan and Ishkashim, Rahmon participated in ceremonies of official opening of a number of new social, educational and cultural facilities and in groundbreaking ceremonies of construction of new facilities.
On June 26, Rahmon participated in an official opening of a 30-meter flagpole for an 8-meter-by-4-meter Tajik flag in Khorog. According to the president”s press service, the project cost some 300,000 somoni (a bit more than $38,000).
Rahmon also inaugurated the Center for Tourism and Development of Entrepreneurship and a modern gym in Khorog.
