Tajikistan Security Council Secretary Abdurahim Qahhorov has met here with his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev, who arrived in Dushanbe on October 3 on a working visit.

According to Russian RIA Novosti news agency, the two pointed to the necessity of using all opportunities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) to prevent spread of terrorism in the region.

The Russian Security Council’s office says the two  noted that it would be expedient to use opportunities of both bilateral cooperation and cooperation in the framework of the CSTO, SCO and CIS in order to prevent spread of international terrorist organizations in Central Asia’s nations.

The consultations participants reportedly underlined the significance of the upcoming joint session of the CSTO foreign ministers, defense ministers and security council secretaries as well as the CSTO Collective Security Council session that will take place in the Armenian capital Yerevan on October 14.

Besides, Qahhorov and Patrushev discussed issues related to bilateral cooperation in countering international terrorism, regulating migration, protecting rights of labor migrants, and countering illegal migration.

A special attention was reportedly paid to the latest developments in Afghanistan and their impact on security in the Central Asian region.  The sides noted that international terrorist organizations were intensifying their activities in Afghanistan.  In this context, they touched upon problems of control of Tajikistan’s common border with Afghanistan.

The meeting resulted in signing of the plan of cooperation between the offices of the Security Councils of Tajikistan and Russia designed for the period of 2017-2018, RIA Novosti reported.
