The Japanese budo delegation is expected to visit Tajikistan from October 22-23, 2016, the Japanese Budo Delegation will visit Tajikistan.

According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the delegation members include eight budo experts from Kodokan Judo Institute and All Japan Kendo Federation.

The main purpose of the visit is for the delegation to strengthen the friendly relationship between Japan and Tajikistan, and to promote mutual understanding among two countries through introducing Japanese traditional martial arts — budo.

They will demonstrate Japanese martial arts – Judo and Kendo at the Wrestling Hall “Zurkhona” on October 22 at 14:00 and Japanese martial arts training session in cooperation with budo federations of Tajikistan on October 23.

The event will be co-hosted by Japan Foundation, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, Kadoka Judo Institute, All Japan Kendo Federation, Judo Federation of Tajikistan, Disability Sport Federation of Tajikistan and Federation of Karate Kyokushinkai of Tajikistan.

Kodokan Judo Institute, which is the origin of Judo and has spread in about 200 countries in the world, was founded by Kano Jigoro Shihan in 1882.  The main aims of the Institute are to study, teach, develop and diffuse Kodokan Judo, as well as to contribute to the strengthening of the body and the spirit of Judo athletes, especially for juveniles.

Founded in 1954, All Japan Kendo Federation (AJKF) promotes Kendo and represents amateur Kendo in Japan. The main aims of the organization are to exercise general control over and represent the amateur Kendo (including Iaido and Jodo) circles.  AJKF strives for promotion of Kendo, infiltrates the spirit of Kendo into the Japanese people, and affiliates with International Kendo Federation as a representative organization of the Japanese Kendo groups.

Budo is a Japanese term describing modern Japanese martial arts.  Literally translated it means the “Martial Way,” and may be thought of as the “Way of War.”  The term refers to the idea of formulating propositions, subjecting them to philosophical critique and then following a “path” to realize them. Budo gives attention not only to the physical part of fighting but also to the mind and how one should develop oneself.
