Deputies of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament have unanimously supported the proposal of their colleague to vest relevant bodies with powers to get information about citizens visiting the so-called ‘undesirable’ websites.

A regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on June 7.

Speaking at the session, MP Jourakhon Majidzoda noted that every day citizens of Tajikistan receive up to 90,000 SMS messages from putative extremists and terrorists with call to join them.

“Today, more than 3 million citizens of Tajikistan have access to Internet, and more than 80 percent of them are visiting the so-called undesirable websites belonging to extremist and terrorist organizations,” Majidzoda noted.

In this connection, he proposed to make amendments to the country’s law on operational and search activity that would provide for vesting law enforcement officers with powers to get information about persons visiting the ‘undesirable’ websites.

This proposal got unanimous Majlisi Namoyandagon support.
