The YouTube video-sharing website is available again on the Internet in Tajikistan, along with the Facebook social network.
Access to YouTube and Facebook was blocked by some Internet Service Providers (ISPs) last year following an oral order from the state communications service agency and social network users have informed about unblocking of the websites.
Kholiqnazar Jumayev, a spokesman for Babilon-Mobile, says their company unblocked access to YouTube and Facebook last year.
Tajik authorities have long been criticized for randomly blocking news websites and popular social networks.
Such government action has almost always coincided with online activities of opposition groups or events tied to social and political events in the country.
Officials at the state communications service agency, however, always say they have nothing to do with the Internet blockage.
The latest long-term blockage of social networks occurred after Abduhalim Nazarzoda’s mutiny in September 2015. The websites remained inaccessible until March 2016.
