A Khorog murder suspect has been detained, according to the Interior Ministry.

“Resident of Khorog Qosim Abdurasoulov who is suspected of killing the 27-year-old resident of Khorog Alinazar Qambarov was detained on July 23 and he is currently being held at the Khorog pretrial detention facility,” Umarjon Emomali, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Recall, the incident took in Khorog’s Bar Kharagh (Upper Khorog) neighborhood in the afternoon of July 16.

Qosim Abdurasoulov reportedly shot at Alinazar Qambarov from a pistol following quarrel.  Qambarov died on the spot.

Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, citing a local resident, notes that Qosim Abdurasulov is brother of Feraydoun Abdurasoulov, who was killed during a security operation in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), on May 21, 2014.

Police said at the time that one suspected member of a criminal group was killed and two of his associates were injured during the security operation in Khorog.  The two injured suspects, including Feraydoun Abdurasulov, were arrested and he later died in hospital.

In the summer of 2012, Tajik government forces conducted a military operation in the region against local armed groups after a top security official was murdered there.
