France’s Hydrokarst SA is studying energy potential of Tajikistan and the possibility of participation in the country’s energy projects.  The French company, in particular, could be engaged in clearing reservoirs of Nurek and Qairoqqum hydroelectric power plants (HPPs).

Hydrokarst Sales Manager, Mr. Jeremy Brunette Mankuat (phonetically spelled), told reporters at France’s Embassy in Dushanbe yesterday that their company is considering the issue of participation in a tender for rehabilitation of Nurek and Qairoqqum HPPs.  Ukrainian company could also participate in rehabilitation of the Qairoqqum HPP.

“We could carry out underwater inspections.  There are state-of-the-art equipment and operators that could clear reservoirs of sedimentary deposits without water discharge,” the company official noted.  

During his two-day visit, he is scheduled to hold talks with senior representatives of the Ministry of energy and Water Resources, Barqi Tojik (Tajikistan’s national integrated power company) as well as offices of international financial institutions active in Tajikistan.   

Founded in 1977, Hydrokarst SA with headquarters in in Sassenage, France, operates as an underwater, rope access, and confined area contractor.  Its underwater contracts include oil and gas underwater maintenance; inspection and nondestructive testing; bathymetry; ROV inspection; urgent intervention; survey and research; safety assistance; water impounding; dredging, pumping, and sediment treatment; maintenance of immersed structure; laying and burying of pipes and cables; deep diving with mixed gas; saturation diving; underwater cutting and dismantling; cleaning; jetting; welding; and lifting.  The company offers rope access contracts for rock falls and avalanches prevention, civil engineering, industrial site, oil and gas, explosive, pipe, nondestructive testing, and cutting and dismantling works. In addition, it provides confined area contracts in confined areas, such as caves, pipes, sewage networks, tanks, and silos.
