Tajik political scientist Shokirjon Hakimov considers that Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Dushanbe to pave the way for mending Tajik-Iranian relations that have taken a nosedive over the past two years.

According to him, the sides have not widely announced Iranian foreign minister’s visit for the purpose of avoiding awkward questions from journalists.

“Deterioration of relationships is not for good of both sides,” Hakimov noted.

He further added that it could not be ruled out that henceforth the Iranian side would refrain from any contacts with leaders of the banned Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRPT) and other organizations related to that party.

Tajik expert also supposed that issues related to Babak Zanjani’s case would be discussed at Zarif’s meetings with Tajik officials.
