Signing ceremony for seven new projects was convened at the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe on February 7.  The grant contracts were signed by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Republic of Tajikistan, Mr. Hajime Kitaoka, and representatives of the recipient organizations.

According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the total grant of Government of Japan for the projects amounts to 548,612 U.S. dollars.

The seven new projects, funded under the scheme of Japan`s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) are;

– “The Project for Rehabilitation of the Prosthetic Limbs Manufacturing and Physiotherapy Center of Kulob City”, signed with Mr. Bakhtiyor Rustamov, Director of the Prosthetic Limbs Manufacturing and Physiotherapy Center of Kulob City, for the amount of USD 81,752;

– “The Project for Rehabilitation of Khorog General Hospital”, signed with Mr. Yodgor Faizov, Chief Executive Officer, Aga Khan Foundation Tajikistan, for the amount of USD 93,420;

– “The Project for Construction of Women`s Center in Sarband City”, signed with Ms. Sanavbar Samizoda, Chairperson of Sarband City, for the amount of USD 90,130;

– “The Project for Provision of Equipment to Women Resource Center in Vorukh Jamoat of Isfara District”, signed with Ms. Sadbarg Mirsaidova, Deputy Head of “Support Center of Vorukh Jamoat”, for the amount of USD 13,240;

– “The Project for Provision of Excavator for Maintenance of Irrigation Canal in Mastchoh District”, signed with Mr. Ghayrat Azizizoda, Chairperson of Mastchoh District, for the amount of USD 89,900;

– “The Project for Provision of Excavator for River Bank Reinforcement in Temurmalik District”, signed with Mr. Emomiddin Aslzoda, Chairperson of Temurmalik District, for the amount of USD 89,770;

– “The Project for Provision of Medical Equipment to Central Clinic No.9 in Dushanbe City”, signed with Ms. Zevaroy Bahriyeva, Director of Central Clinic No.9 in Dushanbe City, for the amount of USD 90,400.

During the ceremony, Mr. Hajime Kitaoka made a remark that Japan’s GGP projects have been able to contribute to the sustainable development of Tajikistan through various projects implemented all across the country and these projects in particular will contribute to creating a better environment for the vulnerable people in the remote areas.  Embracing the occasion, the grant recipients expressed their gratitude to the Government and the people of Japan for their support and ensured that all the determined project goals will be achieved.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in addressing development needs in the areas such as education, health, water supply and the environment.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  As of today, GGP has supported 387 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 31.3 million has been provided since 1996.
