The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will provide 6 million U.S. dollars for improvement of power supply and medical service in the Romit Gorge, which is subordinate to Vahdat Township.

An appropriate document on this subject was singed between the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan (MoEWR), Vahdat Township Administration and the Korea International Cooperation Agency here on February 14.

An official source at a MoEWR says the project will be implemented in nine villages of the Romit Gorge: Guskef, Pichef, Koku, Devdara, Novaki Poyon, Novaki Bolo, Pushandoch, Vistanand Dashti Mazor.

“Residents of these villages will get access to electricity and modern medical service for the first time,” the source said.

According to him, the project provides for construction of 110/10KV substation and more than 50 kilometers of power transmission lines as well as installation of transformers and power-consumption control system and construction of first-aid stations.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) was established by the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1991 as a governmental organization for Official Development Assistance (ODA) to enhance the effectiveness of South Korea's grant aid programs for developing countries by implementing the government's grant aid and technical cooperation programs.
