The Main Military Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into cause of suicide of a border guard who has hanged himself while being on leave in his native village in the Vakhsh district, Khatlon province.

A special commission has been set up to investigate the cause of suicide of a 22-year-old Avaz Nabiyev.  The commission members include representatives of the Main Military Prosecutor’s Office and the Main Border Guard Directorate at the State Committee for National Security (SCNS).

Avaz Nabiyev was found hanged near the transformer cabin not far from his parents’ house in the morning of August 22.  

Avaz Nabiyev had served in the border unit in the Ishkshim district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO since May 2017.

“On the eve of the Idi Qurbon, Avaz Nabiyev was given vacation for an exemplary service.  Besides, his brother’s wedding was supposed to take place immediately after the holiday,” Muhammadjon Ulughkhojyaev, a spokesman for the Main Border Guard Directorate, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Investigators intend to question not only Avaz’s parents, relatives and neighbors but also his colleagues in order to find out why he committed suicide.
