AmCham Tajikistan held a Joint Business Breakfast with American Councils for International Education, which took place at Dushanbe Hilton Hotel on May 22.

According to AmCham, Chairman of the AmCham Tajikistan Board of Directors, Mr. Thomas Hallam, who is also CEO of Somon Air welcomed all the participants in this expanded format meeting and opened discussion on the topic “Building Human Capital: How can US educational programs strengthen business in Tajikistan“.

After Mr. Hallam's welcoming remarks, Ms. Margaret (Peggy) Mary Grieve, Vice-Chair of the U.S. – CAEF Board spoke to AmCham members, who are representatives of banks, private sector companies and experts.  Alumni of US-CAEF program were also present during the meeting.  These alumni studied at KIMEP and AUCA on full scholarship provided by the fund.  The discussion reportedly covered the significant contribution of CAEF project, educational development and reforms related to business climate in Tajikistan.

Ms. Grieve spoke about the US-CAEF program and how students are selected for the program. According to her, US-CAEF program focuses on financial need and merit of the students.  She highlighted that the American Councils for International Education program focuses on finding talented students among Central Asia covering all regions and rural areas and give them opportunity to study abroad. 

Facilitating support to improve quality of education, participants noted a creation of a free access to biggest source of job vacancies and internship through collaboration with AmCham and American Councils.  Speakers drew an attention to the quality education, implementation and strengthen different possibilities of cooperation between U.S. – CAEF and governmental sectors and thereby to strengthening international relations.

Members of AmCham also noted that it is very hard to find strong talent in Tajikistan and these educational programs are very important in order to prepare future business leaders In Tajikistan.
