Two Chinese companies will participate in rehabilitation of two sections of the highway connecting Kulob (Khatlon province) and Qalaikhumb, the administrative center of the Darvoz district (Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region).  The estimated budget for rehabilitation of these sections of the Kulob-Qalaikhumb highway is 115.5 million U.S. dollars.

The Ministry of Transport of Tajikistan has concluded agreements with two Chinese companies rehabilitating separate sections of the Kulob-Qalaikhumb highway.

According to the Ministry of Transport (MoT), Xinjiang Construction Engineering Company Group Limited will rehabilitate a 33-kilomter section connecting the city of Kulob and the Shamsiddin-Shohin district (Khatlon province).

The project also includes construction of three bridges with a total length of 108 meters, an official source a MoT told Asia-Plus in an interview.

China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) will participate in rehabilitation of a 26-kilometer section of the highway connecting the village of Shkev and Qalaikhumb in the Darvoz district (GBAO).  

An estimated budget for rehabilitation of these sections of the Kulob-Qalaikhumb highway is 155.5 million U.S. dollars.  The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), Kuwait Fund for Development, Abdu Dhabi Fund for Development and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) have provided funds for the implementation of these two projects.  The Government of Tajikistan has also made contribution to the implementation of these projects
