Tajikistan, Iran expected to resume direct flights next month

Iranian media reports say Tajikistan and Iran will resume direct flights next month after an eight-month break.

Mehr News Agency (MNA) says that according to Tajik media Iran and Tajikistan will resume air travels on Dushanbe-Tehran route in mid-June.

Meanwhile IRNA reports that the first flight from Tajikistan to Iran will be operated on June 6 by the Iranian Varesh Airlines that will use its Boeing 737-500 airplane with a capacity for 120 passengers.

"Iran's Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) submitted all the necessary documents to resume passenger flights by Varesh Airlines.  We received those documents and allowed that flights be realized between the Iranian city of Mashhad and Tajik capital of Dushanbe and vice versa," Aziz Nabizoda deputy director of Tajikistan’s Civil Aviation Agency, was quoted as saying by IRNA

Iran’s private air company, Varesh Airlines, was established in 2018 and carried out its first flight from Tehran to Sari, the provincial capital of Mazandaran on October 9 last year.

"Currently, there will be only one return flight per week," said Abulreza Mohammadi, Director-General of Almas-e Sharq (Eastern Diamond, in Persian), the official representative of Varesh Airlines in Tajikistan.

He also expressed hope that Tajikistan flag carrier Tajik Air will also resume flights that connect the two countries' capitals.

MNA says flights between the two countries were suspended in October last year.  Then the Iranian airline Aseman Airlines, which operated the flights on the Mashhad-Dushanbe route, stopped the flights, reportedly due to low profitability.
