On the occasion of International Olympic Day, more than 5,000 residents of Dushanbe are expected to go to the mass morning exercise on the following Saturday, June 22.  

Such a decision has been made by the Committee for Youth and Sports Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan and Tajikistan’s National Olympic Committee (NOC).

According the press center of the Committee for Youth and Sports Affairs, more than 5,000 residents of Dushanbe will gather for the mass morning exercise near the Navrouzgoh Waterfall on June 22 at 6:00 am.

On the occasion of Olympic Day which is celebrated on June 23, sports activities are expected to take place in all cities and districts of Tajikistan.

Besides, a conference formally tiled “The Role of Leader of the Nation in Development of Olympic Movement in Tajikistan” will take place at the Institute of Sports and Physical Education on June 21.

Olympic Day was introduced in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on June 23, 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris. The goal was to promote participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic ability.  Olympic Day is celebrated all around the world: hundreds of thousands of people – young and old – participate in sports activities, such as runs, exhibitions, music and educational seminars.

Commemorating the birth of the modern Olympic Games, Olympic Day is not only a celebration, but an international effort to promote fitness and well-being in addition to the Olympic ideals of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship.
