President Emomali Rahmon expressed his condolences to U.S. President Donald Trump following the deadly collision of a passenger airplane with a military helicopter in Washington, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

"We received with deep sorrow the tragic news of numerous human casualties resulting from the collision and crash of a passenger airliner and a military helicopter in Washington's airspace. We extend our sincere condolences and words of support to you and to all the families and loved ones of the victims," state a message released on January 31.

On January 29, 2025, American Eagle Flight 5342, a scheduled domestic passenger flight operated by a Bombardier CRJ700 series airliner, collided mid-air with a United States Army Sikorsky UH-60L Black Hawk helicopter while on final approach to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport near Washington, D.C.  Both aircraft crashed into the Potomac River, killing all 67 people on board the two aircraft.
