February in Tajikistan is expected to be cool, especially in the mountainous and eastern regions, including the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), where frosts and temperature fluctuations are forecasted, according to the country’s Hydrometeorological Center (Hydromet).

Meteorologists report that while valley regions will experience milder temperatures, precipitation and strong winds will persist throughout the month.

 

Khatlon Province and valley areas of districts subordinate to the center

Temperature: In valleys, daytime temperatures will range from 4°C to 8°C, which is 1°C -2°C above normal. In foothills, temperatures will be around 0°C to 3°C, also slightly above average.

Daily fluctuations: nighttime 4°C to 9°C, sometimes dropping to -6°C; daytime: 10°C to 15°C, occasionally cooling to 4°C -9°C.

In foothills, night temperatures will range from -7°C to +5°C, and daytime temperatures will reach 2°C to 7°C, occasionally rising to 8°C -13°C.

In valleys, temperatures could drop to 0°C during the day and -6°C at night. In foothills, nighttime temperatures may plummet to -10°C, with daytime temperatures dropping to -4°C.

Above-normal rainfall is expected—28-33 mm in valleys and 110-130 mm in foothills.

Strong western winds up to 17-22 m/s, with fog are possible.

 

Sughd Province

Temperature: in valleys, average temperatures will be 2°C -4°C (normal: 2°C -3°C); in mountainous areas, the temperature will range from -3°C to -5°C.

Daily fluctuations: nighttime: -3°C to +2°C, sometimes dropping to -8°C; daytime: 2°C to 7°C, reaching a maximum of 8°C -13°C.

In mountains, nighttime temperatures may fall to -4°C, while daytime temperatures will range from -3°C to +8°C.

Possible drops to -10°C are expected in valleys and -15°C are expected in mountains at night, with daytime temperatures reaching -6°C.

Precipitation is expected within the normal range—13-38 mm in valleys and 10-22 mm in mountains, with some variations. Strong winds and fog are also possible.

 

Mountainous areas of districts subordinate to the center and western part of GBAO

Temperature: average temperatures will be -3°C to +2°C, with some areas experiencing -6°C to -8°C (normal: -4°C to +10°C).

Daily fluctuations: nighttime: -10°C to -5°C and daytime — -5°C to +3°C.

Some nights could see temperatures drop to -15°C, while daytime temperatures may reach -8°C.

Higher-than-normal levels—up to 130 mm are expected in mountain areas of districts subordinate to the center, up to 141 mm on the southern slopes of the Hisor Range, and 8-59 mm in western GBAO.

Wind speed may increase to 17-22 m/s, with fog expected.

 

Eastern part of GBAO

Temperature: the average temperature will range from -13°C to -14°C (normal: 15°C).

In Bulunkul area, temperatures may drop to -20°C.

Nighttime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -22°C to -27°C, with extreme cold spells reaching -36°C.

Daytime temperatures are expected to fluctuate from -5 to +5°C, occasionally dropping to -15°C.

Precipitation is expected to be minimal—between 4-16 mm and wind strong gusts up to 12-17 m/s are expected.
