On February 21, a joint meeting of government delegations on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border was held in Bishkek under the leadership of the heads of the National Security Committee of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, Saimumin Yatimov and Kamchybek Tashiev.

According to NIAT “Khovar”, with reference to the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan, the parties listened to the reports of the working groups, approved the work done and initialed the final documents on the delimitation of the border.

The parties initialed the draft Agreement between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on the Tajik-Kyrgyz State border.

Initialing is the preliminary signing of an international treaty by the initials of the persons involved in its drafting.

The document has been prepared for final signing by the Presidents of the two countries.

Saimumin Yatimov and Kamchybek Tashiev also initialed an agreement on the construction and Use of Highways, the arrangement and use of a highway intersection, and an agreement between the governments on access to water and energy facilities.

Negotiations of government delegations on the delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border were held at the Ala-Archa State Residence in Bishkek.

Kamchybek Tashiev, speaking after the meeting, noted that "for the citizens of the two countries – Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan – this is a special day, a historic day."

"Today we signed the final protocol on the delimitation of the border between our countries – Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan… We have prepared several documents for further signing," – he said, according to Kyrgyz media.

The head of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic explained that we are talking about a number of agreements, including those providing for "the use of cross roads and the construction of new ones."

He thanked the members of the commissions of both countries, especially Saimumin Yatimov, noting that his Tajik counterpart "provided great assistance" in this matter.

Saimumin Yatimov called the Agreement on the Tajik-Kyrgyz state border "a key historical document" that definitively fixes the border between the two countries, reports AKI-press. 

"Today, on February 21, 2025, important events took place in Bishkek, which have been discussed all the time by the commissions of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on delimitation and demarcation. It's done!" – said Saimumin Yatimov, head of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan.

"These important legal documents will be submitted to the top authorities of the two sovereigns for consideration and signing. If they are legalized, the 100-year-old dispute between the two fraternal republics regarding the border issue will be put to an end. After the signing of the heads of State, these historical documents will serve the historical aspirations of our peoples. They will serve political, social, cultural, economic and other interests," – said Yatimov, co-chairman of the government commissions on the delimitation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

As noted, the heads of the special services of the two countries were instructed to begin "conducting the procedure for the internal coordination of relevant bilateral international agreements."
