Governor of Afghanistan’s Badakhshan visits Tajikistan’s GBAO for border security talks

A delegation from the Taliban, led by Ismail Ghaznavi, the governor of Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, arrived in Tajikistan. The visit took place in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), where the delegation met with the region's governor, Alisher Mirzonabot. This information was reported by the National Afghan Television Channel on November 27, citing the spokesperson for the Taliban's border forces, Obidulloh Foruki.

According to the source, the delegation members included Mawlawi Abdul Manan Hassan, the deputy chief of the Taliban's border police.

During the visit, the delegation reportedly held meetings with representatives of relevant Tajikistani structures.

The main topics of the talks were strengthening order at border crossings, improving coordination of joint activities on the border, and ensuring security. These issues were central to the discussions on enhancing bilateral relations between the neighboring regions.

Tajik authorities have yet to provide an official comment on the Taliban delegation's visit to GBAO.

It is worth noting that just a few days ago, a Tajik delegation visited Kabul to conduct talks with the Taliban representatives. According to Afghan media reports, during these meetings, the Taliban allegedly asked Tajikistan to officially recognize their government in Afghanistan.

Additionally, the Taliban representatives reportedly proposed that the Afghan Embassy in Dushanbe be handed over to their control. Currently, the Afghan Embassy in Dushanbe is managed by Zahir Agbar, who was appointed by the previous Afghan government.
