Around 80% of the state border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan's Batken region has already been equipped with wire barriers, according to the Border Service of the State National Security Committee (GKNB) of Kyrgyzstan.

On December 12, GKNB head Kamchybek Tashiyev visited the area where the borders of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan meet. He inspected the ongoing construction and engineering works on the border sections and personally checked the quality of the installations.

During the inspection, Tashiyev was briefed on the current situation at the border and the progress of the border infrastructure works. It was noted that the work on the remaining 20% of the border sections is expected to be completed by 2026, in accordance with the approved schedule.

Following the inspection, Tashiyev issued specific instructions to responsible officials on further strengthening the border infrastructure, enhancing security levels, and accelerating construction and engineering works. He emphasized the importance of strict adherence to border regulations and increased preventive measures to ensure security.

Tashiyev also visited military unit No. 2022, where he awarded certificates and financial incentives to soldiers who demonstrated exceptional initiative and actively participated in efforts to strengthen the state border.

On March 13, 2025, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan signed an agreement that finalized the border delimitation process between the two countries. Later, on March 31, a trilateral meeting took place in Khujand with the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. The leaders signed a treaty on the exact border point between the three states and the Khujand Declaration on everlasting friendship.

The total length of the Tajik-Kyrgyz border is 1,008.14 kilometers, and the first phase of the border security project involves installing barriers on 420 kilometers of the border.

Kyrgyzstan began installing engineering structures in April of this year. However, Tajikistan has not officially reported on any engineering works on its side of the border.
