Tajik President, who arrived in Tokyo to participate the first "Central Asia – Japan" summit in Tokyo, today held a series of high-level meetings with leading Japanese officials and organizational representatives. Key areas of bilateral cooperation and joint project implementation in the fields of economy, science, and technology were the focus of the discussions.

Cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

One of the significant meetings was with the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Akihiko Tanaka.

President Rahmon highlighted Tajikistan’s appreciation for Japan’s efforts through JICA, emphasizing the importance of joint projects in strategic sectors such as energy, agriculture, transport, and healthcare.

During the meeting, two grant agreements were signed for projects to build substations and modernize cargo scanning equipment at customs posts. The discussion also covered attracting Japanese investments, including concessional yen loans.

Special attention was given to the development of "green" energy and the expansion of the JDS program (Japan’s program for developing countries), covering areas such as medicine, nanotechnology, information technology, and environmental protection. There was also a focus on the creation of a Tajik-Japanese center for innovation and digital technologies in Tajikistan.

Cooperation with the Japan-Russia and CIS Trade Association (ROTOBO)

Another key meeting for President Rahmon was with Masami Iijima, the president of the Japan-Russia and CIS Trade Association (ROTOBO).

The discussion centered on deepening economic and trade ties between Tajikistan and Japan. President Rahmon noted Tajikistan’s unique resources, strategic geographical position, and significant human potential, making the country an attractive location for establishing logistical and production chains.

The conversation also explored opportunities for expanding agricultural product processing, the textile industry, and the use of new technologies in pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, and banking. Participation in the construction of small hydroelectric plants and renewable energy sources was proposed.

Development of inter-parliamentary cooperation

President Rahmon also met with the Chairman of the Tajikistan-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group, Keiji Furukawa.

The meeting discussed prospects for joint projects in healthcare, science, education, and transport. Special attention was paid to supporting startups, technology parks, and the training of highly qualified IT specialists.

Cooperation with the Japan Organization for Metallurgical and Energy Security (JOGMEC)

The final meeting was with Ichi Takahara, the Executive Director of the Japan Organization for Metallurgical and Energy Security (JOGMEC).

President Rahmon expressed Tajikistan’s interest in cooperation in the energy and mining sectors, emphasizing the need to modernize extraction and processing technologies. Renewable energy projects and opportunities to involve Japanese companies in implementing "green technologies" in Tajikistan were discussed.
