DUSHANBE, May 10, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajik state-run rail company, Rohi Ohani Tojikiston (Tajik Railways), plans to purchase 100 passenger carriages.
Last year, Tajik Railways reportedly purchased only 15 passenger carriages.
“Our company also plans to purchase 300 cargo cars and five diesel locomotives during this year,” an official source at Tajik Railways said.
We will recall that in February this year, Tajik state-run rail company purchased 100 cargo trains with weight-carrying capacity of 70 tons each from Ukraine.
Last year, Tajik Railways purchased 306 cargo cars, 15 passenger carriages and four diesel locomotives.
Tajikistan’s rolling-stock now includes 2,169 cargo cars, 432 passenger carriages and 59 diesel locomotives.
The total length of rails in Tajikistan is more than 950 kilometers; of that, 680 kilometers are the main railways. At present there are more than 30 railway stations in the republic.
At present Tajik Railways offers three routes to the Russian Federation (Dushanbe-Moscow, Kulob-Moscow, Khujand-Saratov) and three domestic routes (Dushanbe-Khujand, Dushanbe-Pakhtaobod and Qurghon Teppa-Kulob).
