DUSHANBE, May 10, 2013, Asia-Plus – The Initiative Group for formation of the Tojikistoni Nav (New Tajikistan) Party says threats have allegedly been made against the Group leader Zayd Saidov.

“Today, Zayd Saidov was summoned to the law enforcement agency,” Mahmoudjon Qosimov, the member of the initiative group, told journalists in Dushanbe on May 10.

He, however, did not specify what Zayd Saidov was summoned to the law enforcement agency for.  He just noted that threats had been made against Zayd Saidov.

According to him, Zayd Saidov allegedly received the SMS message with the following content: “If you do not stop and do not accept our terms, we will take specific measures.”

“We have informed the law enforcement authorities of this incident,” Qosimov said, noting that they are completing work on preparing the program and the charter of the party and making preparations for convocation of the founding congress of the party, which is scheduled for late May.

“The Initiative Group is seriously concerned over the increasing pressure that is being made on the party lately.  The authorities are carrying out mass inspections at all facilities belonging to Zayd Saidov,” the statement released by the Initiative Group said.

Recently, Zayd Saidov underwent thorough inspection at the airport in Moscow, Qosimov said.

The Initiative Group notes that the strategic task of their party is not participation in the upcoming presidential election in the country; the strategic task of the party is making preparations for the parliamentary elections that will take place in Tajikistan in 2015.

Meanwhile, some media sources on May 10 received an article about personal life and activities of Zayd Saidov before and after the signing of the General Peace Agreement.  According to this article signed by certain Safar Hakimov, Zayd Saidov allegedly had close contacts with founders of the Islamic movement in Tajikistan and with militants of Mullo Abdullo who were annihilated by government forces in the Rasht Valley two years ago.

We will recall that the formation of a new political party – Tojikistoni Nav (New Tajikistan) – was declared in Dushanbe on April 6.   Mr. Zayd Saidov, head of the Association of Entrepreneurs and Producers of Tajikistan, who is also head of the Coordinating Council of Business Associations and Public Associations of Tajikistan (CCBAPAT), declared the formation of the new political party.

Initiated by Zayd Saidov, head of the Association of Entrepreneurs and Producers of Tajikistan also the Coordinating Council of Business Associations and Public Associations of Tajikistan (CCBAPAT), Shavkat Bozorov, first deputy head of CCBAPAT also head of the National Association of Managers and Marketing Specialists of Tajikistan, Abdughani Mamadazimov, head of the Association of Political Scientists of Tajikistan, as well as heads of a number of business associations, the new political party reportedly aims to promote the achievement of economic independence of Tajikistan.

According to its initiators, the Party of New Tajikistan “is a platform for union of ideas, views, personalities and opportunities for national creation.”

The Party of New Tajikistan is reportedly the party of pragmatists, innovators, technocrats and professionals.

We will recall that the Coordinating Council of Business Associations and Public Associations of Tajikistan was established in 2007 in order to support the business associations and improve the private sector in the country and Zayd Saidov was elected to head CCBAPAT last summer.

Zayd Saidov, 55, graduated from the Faculty of Economics at Tajik National University in 1983.  In 1993-1999, he was director-general of the Moscow-based Joint-Stock Company (JSC) Khalif.  From 1999 to 2006, Zayd Saidov served as Minister of Industry of Tajikistan.  From 2007 up to now, Zayd Saidov is Chairman of the Association of Entrepreneurs and Producers of Tajikistan.
