President sets terms for handing in illegally possessed weapons arms

GHARM, October 3, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The President has set terms for handing in weapons illegally possessed by population in the Rasht Valley.

Persons who have Illegally possessed weapons should voluntarily hand over them to local law enforcement authorities within the next few days, President Emomali Rahmon announced at a meeting at the central stadium in Gharm, administrative center of the Rasht district on October 2. 

He noted that those who had handed in the illegally possessed weapons during the holy month of Ramadan will be relieved from criminal responsibility.  

Speaking at the meeting, the president noted that district’s economic results have improved over the past several years due to development of gardening, bee keeping, potato growing and animal husbandry.  

“Over years, more than 15 small hydropower plants have been built in the Rasht district and the government last year allocated 14 million somoni for development of the district,” said Rahmon, “Modern hotel has been built and a new stadium has been constructed in the Navobod settlement.” 

He also noted that eight tractor, six ambulances, nine buses, 70 computers and 12 printers for local schools had been provided to the Rasht district due to money allocated from presidential reserve fund.    

The president promised that 1.5 million somoni for reconstruction of the Gharm stadium will be allocated from presidential fund this year and further 1.5 million somoni will be allocated next year.  

Today morning, President Rahmon left Gharm for the Tojikobod district.  Today, the head of state will also visit Jirgatol and Tavildara districts.
