DUSHANBE, June 13, 2013, Asia-Plus – Reliable and up-to-date information is essential for health planning and health management and decision-making.  Tajik health information system must be strengthened, modernized and adapted to the needs of the reform of the health system.  The Assessment of the Health Information System (HIS) to Tajikistan, conducted by the Republican Center for Medical Statistics and Information, with the support of the European Commission, provides serious baseline information on the current status of the HIS in the country.

The European Union has reportedly provided €350,000 worth of equipment to Tajik agencies for medical statistics and information and registry offices.

According the Ministry of Health (MoH) press center, the European Union has provided 318 computers, 160 printers, 4 projection cameras, 240 modems and 4 severs to the agencies for medical statistics and registry offices in Tajikistan in the framework of the project, Supply of Equipment in Support of Strengthening the Medical Information System in Tajikistan.

“Out of this quantity, 218 computers, 90 printers, 3 projection cameras and, 160 modems and two serves have been handed over to the Ministry of Health for distribution to the Republican Center for Medical Statistics and Information and its subdivisions in the districts, while registry offices have received 100 computers, 70 printers, one projection camera, 80 modems and one server,” the MoH press center said.
