DUSHANBE, August 5, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Qurghon Teppa constituency # 26 is making preparations for parliamentary by-election due on August 10, according to the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER).   

The source at a CCER said that the ballot papers were delivered to the constituency’s electoral commission on July 4 and from there, they will be distributed to polling stations.    

 We will recall that the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) and the Socialist Party (SPT) have nominated female candidates for an August 10 by-election in the city of Qurghon Teppa, Khatlon province.    

According to the CCER, the PDPT has nominated Ms. Saodat Amirshoyeva, the chairperson of the Khatlon justice directorate.  Ms. Amirshoyeva is an unaffiliated person.

The Socialists have nominated local businesswoman Rano Nazirova. 

The by-election will be called following appointment of Asomuddin Saidov, who formerly represented the Qurghon Teppa constituency in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) as Tajik Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan.

The CCER source said that Qurghon Teppa constituency # 26 numbers 74,600 voters living in the cities of Qurghon Teppa and Sarband as well partially in the district of Bokhtar.
