QURGHON TEPPA, July 2, 2014, Asia-Plus — Families resettled from the Tavildara district (Rasht Valley in eastern Tajikistan) to the Qumsangir district in the southern Khatlon province are complaining about poor living conditions.

Several families were resettled from a quake-prone zone in the Tavildara district to Qumsangir in 2012 and local authorities promised to create all necessary conditions for them.

However, they do not yet have electricity and access to safe drinking water.  There are no school and aid station in their settlement.

According to them, they have repeatedly applied to the head of the Qumsangir district for help but he said that school and aid station should be built by resettled families themselves by means of ‘hashar’ (a system of collective voluntary work by community members).
