KHUJAND, July 2, 2014, Asia-Plus — First year student from Khujand State University, Sh.U., was detained here yesterday with 19.23 kilograms of heroin, according to the Interior Ministry’s office in Sughd.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against him under the provisions of Article 200 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – drug trafficking; an investigation is under way.
According to the Drug Control Agency (DCA)’s office in Sughd, local law enforcement authorities have seized 421.365 kilograms of drugs over the first five months, which was 195 kilograms fewer than in the same period last year. A totaled reportedly included more than 46 kilograms of heroin, more than 260 kilograms of hashish and more than114 kilograms of raw opium.
