Poultry farms meet 25 percent of population’s requirements in eggs, says deputy minister

DUSHANBE, July 21, 2008, Asia-Plus  — 16 poultry farms functioning in Tajikistan have produced some 27 million eggs in January-June 2008, which is 6 million pieces more than in the same period of last year, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mahmoud Qodirov, said. 

According to him, this amount is enough to meet 25 percent of the population’s annual requirements in eggs.  He noted that 16 poultry farms currently have totaling 856,491 head of poultry, which is 290,000 head more than I January-June 2007. 

Qodirov noted that four other poultry farms will be launched in the country before the end of this year.  The new poultry farms will be set up in the districts of Vahdat, Jomi and Shahritus as well as in the city of Kulob.
